Aloha to paradise !

We vacationed in one of the world’s longest island chains. You may have guessed our special holiday destination. Hawaii is the only US state completely made up of islands. Do you know that only seven of the one hundred and thirty two are inhabited. We stayed in Kona on a resort on the Big Island which is quieter than when we stayed in Honolulu decades ago.

Hawaii is well known for its beautiful beaches, water sports and glorious sunsets. What we found most relaxing was being close to the water and relaxing as the palm trees swayed in the island breeze.

The resort was huge and beautifully decorated with some unique garden ornaments spread over a vast area. To go around the resort or to visit the restaurants in the area one could go by boat on a lovely man made canal. Another option was take a tram or stroll through the well maintained gardens with plenty of tropical plants and the famous yellow hibiscus flowers which I learned is Hawaii’s state flower.

It was fun watching the bottle nose dolphins doing tricks and splashing around in their enclosure and we arrived just in time to see the caretakers feeding these playful creatures.

As I write this blog my heart and prayers go out to the people on The island of Maui devastated by the wildfires. Apparently hot and dry winds set the conditions for the wildfires. What has become of this picturesque landscape only time will tell.

As I think of the lovely holiday we had with our friends in Kona just a couple of weeks ago, I cannot help thinking how we take our environment for granted. Mother Nature can be beautiful and serene and in a flash become fiery. The recent images of the wild fires in Maui is all the more difficult for us see and imagine the plight of the locals and tourist who were vacationing there.

Our vacation in Hawaii was relaxing as we did not do much sightseeing and stayed on the resort and enjoyed its amenities. Well after this trip we are taking a short break and soon traveling where the weather is much cooler. So keep following us to know where we are heading next.

So long friends, the Traveling Rebello’s will be heading to their next destination shortly.
